When to visit

June to August: Best for long daylight hours, warmer weather, and access to high-lands (peak season).

May and September: Fewer crowds, lower prices, and still decent weather-great for hiking and whale watching.

September to April: Ideal for northern lights and ice cave tours, but expect cold, dark days and possible road closures.

Know before traveling

Many natural sites are remote; renting a car offers the most flexibility for exploring,

Book accommodations and popular excursions (like glacier hikes or Blue Lagoon visits) well in advance, especially during summer.

Weather is highly unpredictable: Pack layers and always bring waterproof clothing and sturdy boots.

Mistakes to avoid

Packed Itinerary: distances are longer than they seem, and you’ll want to leave time for spontaneous stops and weather delays.

Not checking road.is before driving: weather changes fast, and some roads can be impassible.

Skipping travel insurance: weather can disrupt plans, and medical costs are high.
